IEYK: Ancestral Pathways of Kinship
There are six Pathways to this course named Earth, Water, Air, Fire, Above/Below, and Within (4 are “Elements” and Within and Above/Below we call “Directions”). In order to access Within and then Above/Below, you must first complete all of Earth, Water, Fire, and Air – in the order you choose! At the end of each Pathway, professional development certificates will be available to you, to a total of 40 hours.

We honour your commitment in being here. We invite you to participate in this website as you would in a family, and treat it as a ritual, and a ceremonial space. In doing so, you assume responsibility for your kinship to all of the elements and to the life they support. You will find your own pathways with Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Above/Below/Within by gathering different offerings of your own and creating your own reflections throughout this journey. Your documentation and engagement with the different elements of the course will constitute your work toward storywork. You are also welcome to be involved in collaborative processes with other relatives engaged in the course. As with all strong relations, we encourage this act of reciprocity; both giving and receiving.
Together, we will begin to create something larger than this course, something co-created by many strong, loving hearts and hands who work to love and support children. Something to build a brighter future for our People, for our Rights, and for our Children.
You will see that we have gathered the four elements together; Earth, Water, Air and Fire.
As you journey through these elements, we also invite you to join our kinship circle and make relationships with us and with others also taking this ‘course’. You can use the discussion board to do so. Online ‘Tea-time’ meetings will be made available to provide a nurturing space to meet, collaborate, inquire, and celebrate your further steps in the journey.
We propose to decolonize assessment by working ‘Within’, by asking yourself, deciding your own growth, and not by taking a test or a quiz.
In the direction ‘Above & Below’, you can think with us about leadership and facilitation.
Gilakas’la, Hay č xʷ q̓ə, Sne’ Cal Yegh, Lm’lmpt, Miigwetch, Sechanalyagh, Kʷukʷsteyp to our ancestors, who still speak to us in our dreams and visions. As our matriarch reminded us in suggesting the title of our foundational course, we walk on the pathways of our ancestors. Although not all of the Indigenous Early Years Kinship cousins were able to contribute, those of us who worked on this project carried them always in our hearts and continue to be inspired by them.
Gilakas’la, Hay č xʷ q̓ə, Sne’ Cal Yegh, Lm’lmpt, Miigwetch, Sechanalyagh, Kʷukʷsteyp to those cousins who shared stories, photographs, songs, drumming, videos, poems, and dedicated time to talk, envision, dream, be silent, reflect, and think together to create our foundational course. As in all of our work, participants may approach this course flexibly. You can take it one element, and then one direction, at a time or approach it as a whole. For individuals the cost is $40 CAD per element, and then$60 CAD for each of the directions (Within and Above/Below), for 3 months access; or you can buy all the course components together and work through it all at your pace over 12 months!
For groups of 5-24 participants we offer a special rate and please be in touch with us to make arrangements that best suit your circumstances, and we will do our best to be able to work with you.
